Be mobile - go to Europe!

Tips for an internship abroad. A service offered by the Office for EU-projects and Vocational Qualification of the District Government of Düsseldorf

Project: German-French work group

Target group

The project’s target groups are apprentices of vocational schools from the district governments of Arnsberg, Detmold, Duesseldorf and Cologne.

Description and goal

With the cooperation agreement between the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Académie, both sides express their interest in promoting reciprocal German-French contacts in vocational education and training. A further cooperation agreement with the Académie Aix Marseille is being planned. From the point of view of vocational training the main objective of the signed cooperation agreement is

  • to promote the mobility of young people in education in the French-German and European economic area
  • to enable them cultural and professional experiences abroad
  • to increase their foreign language competence and to further increase the transparency of the two education systems.

This leads to the following concrete objectives for VET:

  • increasing German-French student exchanges in vocational education
  • focusing of internships abroad on learning outcomes orientation in the sense of a networked education
  • Joint preparation or understanding of units of learning outcomes in the internships (e.g. of project-specific learning situations that can be implemented through appropriate teaching / learning arrangements in the context of internships abroad)
  • extension and promotion of professional occupational competence through professional experience abroad
  • promotion of subject-specific competences and (basal) foreign language competence in the participating countries (here: Germany and France)
  • enabling cultural experiences abroad (promotion of intercultural competencies)
  • creating a common quality framework for the implementation of internships abroad
  • promotion of learning outcome orientation and certification of internships abroad.
